Vich Dunia Sev Kamaaiye Ta Dargah Baisan Paaiye

 

Serving the destitute, sick and less unfortunate, irrespective of their caste and creed is the idealespoused by practically all the religious of the world. In the annals of the Sikh History, Bhai Ghaniya Ji, a disciple of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth guru was one such person. The story goes that during the battles he gave water to the injured whether they were friends or the foes. The Sikhs complained to the Guruji that Ghaniya is helping the enemy. Upon inquiry by the Guruji was much pleased. So he also gave him medicine to teat the wounded. He lived the ideals espoused by the Guruji:

 

No one is enemy and strager (Na ko Bairi Nahi Begana)

Render service to others (Vich Duniya Sev Kamaaiye)

All are created equal (Maanas Ki Jaat Sabai Ekai Pehchaanbo)

 

            Bhai Ghaniya Ji Mission Society was established on 12th of May, 1997. A non profit organization managed by volunteers and supported by the donations of its members and general public has grown tremendously during the last 12 years. In addition to running its own hospital, it is affiliated with several government and private hospitals for providing medical care to the sick and destitute. The society has grown from a single dispensary in the poorest area of the city of Amritsar into serving most areas through its affiliations with order hospitals such as Guru Ram Das hospital, Mata Kaulan Ji Mission Hospital, T.B. Hospital and Guru Nanak Hospital.

            The poor patients after medical assessment and prescribed treatment by the doctors in the affiliated hospitals are referred to the society for help. Volunteers from the society are available at these hospitals to help navigate the medical system. The society provides medicine and other financial aid commensurate with the patient’s means. For the very poor, all expenses for the medicine, surgical treatment and hospital stay are born by the society. The society also serves the poor through its mobile dispensary which runs from village to village every day. Furthermore, the society hosts several medical camps in a year to raise awareness of help those who are unable to travel to the city.

 

           

 

        During past 11 years, the patients served by the society have grown by 150 times, the donations increases by 120 times and the members enclosed by 18 times. The society managed by retired officials who do not draw any remuneration. The monthly expenses for all these selfless services come to more than Four Lac Rupees.

 

            In addition to all this, the society renders services in numerous forma as detailed below:-

1.    Bhai Ghaniya Ji Sajan Saraswati Mission Hospital,

Guru Gobind Singh Nagar, Gujjar Pura, o/s  Gilwali Gate, Amritsar. : Sajan Saraswati Foundation Trust, U.K. donated sizable amount of donation for the Construction of Bhai Ghaniya Ji Sajan Saraswati Mission Hospital. It was inaugurated on 14th May, 2007 in the presence of divine and spiritual personalities like Singh Sahib Giani Ji Vedanti, Jathedar Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, Sant Baba Sewa Singh Ji Khadoor Sahib, Sant Baba Labh Singh Ji Qila Akhand Kirtani Jatha, Baba Kashmira Singh Ji Bhoori Wale and Bhai Gur Iqbal Singh of Mata Kaulan Mission Wale.

An annaxe to the hospital has been built up on an additional plot of 150 sq.yds. with a total  cost of Rs. 13 Lacs, which has been generously donated by Professor Ms. Dephne May, 87 Oaklands Grove, London W12 OJE (U.K.)

 

2.   S. Narinder Singh Ji Memorial Bhai Ghaniya Ji Homeopathic Dispensary,

     Situated at Gurudwara Mohan Nagar, Sultanwind Road, Amritsar:

     The Dispensary was started in the memory of our Vice-President S. Narinder Singh Ji. Dr. Harpreet Singh and Dr. Neena are looking after the dispensary at present.

 

 

 

 

3.   Free Acupressure and Suzok Centre: The Centre is being run in the office hall at 62, East Mohan Nagar, Amritsar. Dr. Harmeet Kaur is kind enough to provide. Her services. The centre is equipped with latest machinery, including blood circulation massager.

 

4.    S. Gian Singh Chawla Memorial Bhai Ghaniya Ji Mission Society Physiotherapy Centre, Guru Gobind Singh Nagar, Gujjar Pura, o/s Gilwali Gate, Amritsar.: S. Amarjit Singh Ji Chawla, resident of Australia, donated the entire amount for establishing Physiotherapy Centre with all modern equipment in memory of his respected father S. Gian Singh Chawla and mother Sardarni Gian Kaur Chawla. S. Amarjit Singh Ji Chawla is our associate member and our society is honoured by his association.   

 

5.    Medical Camps: The society organizes 2 (or more) medical camps annually at remote villages and provides free medical assistance to the needy persons. Generally, 400 to 500 patients are assessed by a medical team. Those requiring further treatment are bought to the city hospital. Thekedar Bishan Singh Hanspal Charitable Trust 453, Partap Nagar, Amritsar has graciously been providing financial assistance to the patients of eye ailments identified in these camps for medicines and operations through its President S. Jasbir Singh Hanspal of Canada.  

           

6.     Ambulance/Dead Body Van:

The Van service is provided at very

nominal charges, which too are waived

in case of a needy person. The van

 was donated by Sajan Saraswati

Foundation Trust, U.K.

 

7.   Mobile Dispensary Van: With the kind assistance of S. Gurmukh Singh Baura of Sajan Saraswati Foundation Trust U.K. a special purpose built well-equipped mobile dispensary van is providing medical assistance in remote villages. The van goes to six villages each week. The villagers are informed of the schedule ahead of time. Over 200 patients are served    each day.

 

 

8.  Free Bhai Ghaniya Ji Allopathic Dispensary, Shaheed Baba Sangat Singh Nagar,   Maqbool Pura, Mehta Road, Amritsar (Sponsored by S. Trilochan Singh Ji of Raipur) : The Society is running a free allopathic dispensary at Shaheed Baba Sangat Singh Nagar, Mehta Road, Amritsar to serve the down-trodden residents of the locality. S. Trilochan Singh Ji Chawla of Raipur (Chhatisgarh) has been kind enough to sponsor the dispensary. This dispensary was started on 13th of December, 2008 and providing medicines to the patients on meager payment of Rs. 5/- per day.

 

9.   Bhai Ghaniya Ji Blood & Eye Donation Council, 62, East Mohan Nagar, Amritsar : The Society organizes Blood and Eye Donation Camps frequently on different occasions. Large numbers of donors come forward to donate blood and register themselves for eye donation. The Trustee of Thekedar Bishan Singh Hanspal Charitable Trust S. Basant Singh Hanspal not only donated his eyes but donated his entire body to the Guru Ramdas Hospital for the research purchases of Medical students through our society as per his will.

 

 

10.  Bhai Surat Singh “Puran Ji” Cancer Care Unit, 62, East Mohan Nagar,Amritsar:  

     Another Unit under in name of Bhai Surat Singh “Puran Ji” Cancer Care Unit was started to help us the poor patients the unit is sponsored by the family their relatives & followers. The unit is functioning from the administrative office of the society 62, East Mohan Nagar, Amritsar.  

 

11. S. Basant Singh Hanspal Eye Care Centre :-  In the memory of S. Basant Singh Ji Hanspal, a devoted person of the society with the co-oparation of S. Jasbir Singh Hanspal, Gen. Secy, Thekedar Bishan SIngh Hanspal Public Charitable Trust, started S. Basant Singh Hanspal Eye Care Centre which was inaugurated by Smt. Lakshmi Kanta Chawla, Hon’ble Health Minister, Punjab, on 7.3.2010. The society helps the poor patients for their cataract operations with a meager amount of Rs. 500/-, but in such cases where the patients are not in a position to pay, even this meager amount of Rs. 500/- is exempted by the society.

ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE

It is situated at 62, East Mohan Nagar, Amritsar. All units of the society are controlled from here. All members are retired persons and honorary render service to the society. All meetings of the General body and office bearers of the society conducted in the Office Hall. The expenses incurred by the members and no funds are used for these functions.

 

THANKS GIVING DAY

As if to offer humble gratitude to all the well wishers and donors of the society, the society organizes annual thanks giving religious functions an invites socially recognized personalities to grace the occasion. The total expenses on this function are also borne by the members of the society.

 

FUTURE PLANS

The need for the medical care in the society far exceeds its coverage at the moment. The society is planning to establish more dispensaries in the slum localities of the city to provide medical facilities to the down-trodden. Due to increased traffic on the roads, numbers of traffic accidents have grown exponentially. Many injured die by the roadside for lack of timely medical help. Time lost in carrying the patients to a hospital can result in untimely death. In absence of any help from the Government, the society is planning to create a unit of paramedics and procure a Trauma Van in consultation with the authorities and law enforcement agencies.  

 

APPEAL

The popularity of the society is increasing day by day and the numbers of patients are also increasing considerably. To fulfill the expectations of the people, we need more funds and, therefore, we appeal to all sections of the society to donate generously to enable us to serve the needy. In the mean time, we urge the existing members to encourage people to become members of the society to accomplice the Bhai Ghaniya Ji and mission earn his blessings:-

The contributions are exempted from income tax under section 80-G as per letter No. F.No. CIT-1/ASR/ITO (Tech) 2008-9 412-14 dt. 25.04.2008 (valid upto 31-03-2011).

 

FOREIGN CONTRIBUTIONS

The Society has been registered to receive foreign contributions vide Government letter No. 11/21022/71(007)2004-FCRA-III dt. 13/09/04.
